Beniamin Veisz

To Sony Corporation Headqurter-Japan
Attn.Member of managing staff
(via Sony-Romania)

Dear Mr.Sony,
Good day,Beniamin Veisz,from Romania(Bucharest,sect.6,Al.Poiana Muntelui #2,Bl.OD-3,
sc.2,aprt.64,phone +40.021.4400362,e-mail bveisz@rdslink.ro ) speaking.
1]I’m(more exactly,I’m a former)aerospace engeener.I have, like each pearson, hobbys.I love high performance HiFi devices and photo. My photo activity is from ’85 and beginn with a compact Konica(~30 $),I invest gradually a lot of money in Ricoh KR 10, Canon T1, Minolta 7XI, Canon EOS 10,Nikon F 601 S.And today all this cameras is in my home.
2]In digital age, sure,I,like(sory for low modesty)enthusiaste photo amateur, have from Sony the DSC’s P12(Certificate of Warranty nr.101420932),W1-with deepest respect, except the burst mode and the large LCD-a rabish, very primitive camera(C of W nr.102322831),V1(C of W nr.103110406) and the “blak angel”F 828 ( C of W nr .103399277) .I informe you that I’m also the owner of Sony’s panoramic TV set KV-28WS4K(C of w nr.99344185) and camcorder DCR-TRV19E(C of W nr.110350562).No only for Romania(with enough poor population),you must agree that I invest a “smoll fortune” in yours products. More,my daughter, also a Sony fan,is the owner of the DSC P10 and Tv KV-25FX30 . The conclusion – our family is a very fidel Sony’s customer
3]Maight by because my profesional deformation, I like to have very precise info regarding my products. In this matter,I’m very sory, that your DSC Manual’s Specification is so poor ,that I considere a shame and a low respect for the owners. In purpose to give complete info for your clients,I propose to extend the specification for the V1 and F 828 Manuals with the content of the appendixes nr.1 & 2 to this letter to you.Thank you if you accept.
4]My short review for DSC F828
Note I’m very content with my V1,but my review is only for F 828.I don’t see your catalogue for 2005.If not,you must put into catalogue that the DIWA arwared in sept.2004 F828 with Gold and V1(EISA & TIPA arwared) with Silver medal

4.1)The F 828 is a full contradiction product. Many people is in love and many have a fieling of heat to this DSC.I considere this is a high end nonTTL,semiprofesional digicam prosumer.I spend 1300 E for this camera due the high taxes in Romania. It’s tru that the vendor, like bonus ofer me the expensive lether carycase(~100 $).My apologies, but this case is a real suplice in use.Whay the case is no fited to ths body via a item (like to other brand)puted in the body’s screw hole for tripod, this item having also a similare hole for the tripod ???
4.2)Positives aspects.
a)First, the excellent zoom lens Carl Zeiss &his control by a ring.b)The advanced engeenering concept for the beutyfull metal alloy body-a real strong dependable”battle car”.c)The ergonomic concept for all buttons and dials.d)Sure the 8 megapixels.e)The precise auto&manual focus and the variable options of focusing metodes [multipoints 5 -no to little -? central, flexible point,S,MC],f)The metterig features,g)The excellent and enogh fast burst mode-my love- and exp.braketing.h)The clever TTL flash and his multi option including external flash.i)The smart focus asistance-the laser hollograme.j)The smart digital zoom-excelent in VGA~x35 in eqv 35 mm.k)The genuine “night shot and night framing”.l)The large ISO option.I DISCOVERE THAT IN NIGHT SHOT THE ISO JUMP UP TO 1600 !!!m)The movie mode including fine(but I need 1G memorystik). n)All features of Mode button including voice.o)Versatile P,P+shift,S,A,M,scenic,p)The clever finder having all LCD’s info,etc.etc.
In a scale from 1 to 10, I can give for this camera an average 8.90-9.00.Because for picture quality I can’t offer more then 8.0(see below).Sure ,theF828 camera is very nice. This it’s no enoguh. The look of Hasselblad(also with Zeiss lens !) or Leica is very far from an Apollo or Venus. But the pictures quality of this superdistingueshed brands cameras is astonished supergood.

4.3]Negatives aspects.
a)To smoll LCD.Is necessary min 2.5”.b)Poor soft.c)RAW is other suplice-more then 10”the camera still freeze processing the RAW.A Minolta(I don’t remember the exact code) it’s able to process the RAW in burstmode d)No picture sabiliser. The invoqued Minolta hade this important feature.Infortunelly, from 5 Minolta,4 is bad(qualitiy control, inspection ?).I ,with regret,in the case of a good quality of this DSC,maight be I will say you good bay, purchasing the Minolta.e)Min F=8,it is not enough. For better depht of field,a F=11 is mandatory;F=16 is also suitable.f)P icture quality is under my hopes.I will developpe this subject.
I}CA(PF) is present in somes situation, more exactly in a contrast ambiance-dark subject and very light background.I no blame Sony, because this phenomenon apeare in the case of powerfull zoom lens. But to F 828 this sitation it’s too much.I,after thousands of pictures, can correct this CA using a fast shuter speed an manipulating the sharpness.
II}The ISO range is bad.Using ISO 64-100,all is OK.Using ISO 200 the “grany”=Noise, become a little observable.ISO 400 it’s no good.ISO 800 in standard condition is catastrophic.I find(I have’nt the adequate soft e.g.Ninja II) solution and for this sitation.I use a intermediate focale lengt(for instance 80-90 mm)and max. possible shuter speed. And for ISO 800 the’tragedy”:become only a supportable “drama”.Please be so kind and anlyse in my attach.4 photos ,all in VGA(in front of my apartament is a building by aproximatly 350 yards distance-called by me”test building”): 2 photo (#1 jpeg527& #2 jpeg529)is taked using digital smart zoom f= 200 ,one with ISO100 ,the oderone ISO 800.The Noise is horrible for ISO 800.The other 2 photo(#3 jpeg524 & #4jpeg526) is taked using intermediate f(with digital smart zoom)and high shuter speed, one with ISO 100 and the second with ISO 800.Wiche is wiche ?The noise practically(for 100 % enlargement) it’s not observable.
III}In macro apeare some time the barell distortion.I don’t find solution.
4.4]Conclusion
I’m happy with my Sony DSC F 828
5] I hope that for the F839 or 929 Sony will correct the above negatives. Please introduce in this future team no only engeeneersbut also 1-2 gods photographers !Is a shame that I ,because the age and the pension amount, don’t permite me to buy this future camera

Tank you for your patience to read the above lines and best regards,
Your client, B.Veisz
P.S. 1]I hope you will answer me;
2]My apologies for my bad english.
